About
The Sideways Life

We craft and share authentic stories with people who move the needle. We amplify those stories to a wider audience when the time is right. We are nimble, collaborative, and aim to capture tone of voice and brand messaging in a way that comes across as a seamless extension of your brand. Our vast network of outdoor, action and lifestyle media and influencers appreciate this as much as our brands do. We get results and we get results in a way that creates winning connections for all involved.

“I crave substance.  I love people, and writing, and creating connections. It turns out these are the very skills that you need to be successful in PR, and using these skills in a way that is honest and helpful delivers clients great results. Skateboarding taught me to ‘keep it real’ which it turns out is what journalists and their audiences want from brands.”

Rian Rhoe built her career in the outdoor and action sports industry from the ground up: working the retail sales floor, digging the half pipes on Mt. Hood, representing brands as an ambassador, working nights at the local ski resort, and earning a degree in Journalism and Communications. It was this on-the-ground knowledge that led to writing gigs for Xgames.com, Transworld Business, and Roxy, as well as collaborating and building from the ground up to create the first global social media strategy at Salomon.

Her DIY approach and ability to blend the art and science of marketing paved the way for a move to Europe, where she managed PR and Media for Vans & Reef across EMEA. While based in Switzerland she spearheaded brand campaigns through out of home advertising, directed and executed PR and Media strategy across gold level events, product launches and diverse collaborations including; Supreme, Kenzo, Barbour, Taka Hayashi, Norse Projects, Carhartt WIP, Liberty London, Street Machine, Metallica, Hello Kitty & Disney, connecting with audiences that spanned surf, skate, snow, bmx, music and fashion.

A return to the US led to crafting the communications launch strategy for international brands Goldwin and Houdini Sportswear, in collaboration with Jam Collective, a leader in the outdoor industry, and provided consulting for Vuarnet, Rumpl, Four Wheel Pop Up Tents, Snow Peak, Mountain Hardware and others.

Founding The Sideways Life has allowed her to offer a convenient point of connection for creators, media and brands that is nimble, committed to culture and driven to deliver results.
